Our Adult Social Group is for individuals with developmental disabilities 18 years of age and up. It has been established for several years and meets monthly at various locations around Frederick County. To date the group has had outings at the Frederick YMCA, Faux School on Carroll Creek, Creekside Conference Facilities on Carroll Creek, Crumland Farms, Adventure Park, the Jefferson Ruritan, Skate Frederick, Seven Ten Bowling in Hagerstown, and Cunningham Falls State Park. Last night I went to an alumni dinner . . . I actually mixed and mingled with people . . . This was the first time I went up to people and spoke to them, and I attribute it to your program. This was a big step for me. ~ Member of our Adult Social Group
Our son finally has a chance to interact with other adults with similar gifts and social challenges. My husband and I can meet members and parents of members so we can provide each other with support. The members are being encouraged to develop the social skills necessary for structuring group activities for themselves.
